Glassware shoot #1

this is my first studio shoot with glassware. I used dark field illumination on some cocktail glasses.

Before having to shoot images of glassware in class Christina and I did some research of our own and found this video on You Tube that simply shows the basic principles of light and dark field illumination.

Glass ware

In class we learnt how to photograph glassware.

There are two ways to do this.

Dark field illumination 

Dark field illumination darkens the background and creates bright edges on the glassware

To do this the piece of glass ware is placed in front of a softbox and using

 black cad or velvet the light is blocked of enough to create light edges.

This is what we created:

This is a reasonable image however it is a little dark and the edges are not quite bright enough. 

Light field illumination

Light field illumination is pretty much the exact opposite to dark field. It involves lighting the background the blocking of the light to create dark edges on the glassware to create this effect:

The glassware sits in front of the softbox and a spot reading is taken, this will give the reading of a mid grey, to get a nice white effect, this needs to be taken to a zone VIII, to do so we overexpose the image by 2 stops. Then black card is used to block the light and create dark edges.

These are good images which clearly outline the edges of the glass.
